Emergency Prep Event In Midville

TV Weatherman Emcees Workshop

City Council Member Elizabeth S. Crowley will join the World Cares Center to host a free workshop next Thursday, Apr. 19, to train community leaders and youth on life-saving emergency readiness and relief practices.

As announced, this workshop will focus on creating a community communications plan to provide an integrated approach to emergency preparedness. Presentations for youth will also focus on cooking and kitchen safety, disaster prevention, family preparedness and much more.

The evening’s special guest-Dr. Bill Evans, senior meteorologist for WABC-TV-will introduce the pre- senters, including representatives from the Fire Department and Con Edison.

Within the past two years, neighborhoods in the 30th Council District have experienced a tornado, a hurricane and multiple power outages. In response to these incidents, Crowley and The World Cares Center have come together for the event that is designed to ensure that the community is well-prepared and capable of responding to any crisis.

The World Cares Center delivers disaster preparedness and response trainings to empower citizens, youth, seniors, and leaders in communities in the New York Tri-State area, throughout the United States, and abroad. By ensuring that individuals and agencies are prepared to respond to any sort of emergency situation, the organization alleviates the suffering that can beset communities affected by natural and manmade disasters.

All youth groups, communitybased organization representatives and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) are encouraged to sign up for the workshop, which will take place next Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Margaret School Parish Center, located at 66- 05 79th Pl. in Middle Village.
