When the Bayside High School Commodores fell to the Canarsie Chiefs 22-0 Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, it marked the end of the Queens high school football season. And what a season it was.

Although no team from the borough can lay claim to a championship, the season was one of the more colorful and entertaining ones in recent years. Queens may not be on a par with Staten Island, Brooklyn or Long Island, but at least we got a little closer to evening the playing field in 1999.

First and foremost is Bayside, which has steadily emerged as the premier Queens team in the Public School Athletic League. The Commodores may have finished with a 5-6 overall record
