Increases in four of seven major crime categories pushed the overall crime rate in the 104th Precinct up slightly in 1999.

The number of robberies, burglaries, felony assaults and grand larcenies jumped in 1999 compared to 1998, but murders, rapes and auto theft fell. Overall, there were 3,763 reported incidents of these seven major crimes, up 2 percent from 1998, according to Cadet John Buthorn, a police spokesman.
