Today’s news:

Astoria residents bemoan planned power plants

Astoria residents and politicians expressed growing resistance last week to three new power plants planned for their area, telling the operators to either clean up three existing plants first or else shut them down.

The opposition came during a town hall meeting Sunday afternoon at which many of the 75 residents who attended told the operators of the new plants the skies over Astoria and Long Island City could not take any more pollution.
