Because of injuries to Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, Douglaston native John McEnroe, one of the most successful Davis Cup players ever, has named himself to the four-man team that will take on Spain in the Davis Cup semifinals this weekend in Santander, Spain.

Agassi is suffering from a back injury as a result of a rear-end car collision which occurred last Sunday in Las Vegas as he returned home from Wimbledon, while Sampras has acute tendinitis above his left ankle.
