An emotionally disturbed Astoria man was shot to death Monday by police after stabbing his mother with a 15-inch hunting knife in their basement apartment on 32nd Street, authorities said.
Police in the 114th Precinct were called to the home of Allen Zelencic, 28, of 25-55 32nd St., at 12:19 a.m., said Officer Kevin Tyrell, a police spokesman.
Zelencic had stabbed his 52-year-old mother, Maria Zelencic, in the side with a knife, Tyrell said. The woman ran to her daughter
