Today’s news:

JFK Radisson Hotel to become mini battlefield

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Radisson's ballroom will be transformed into a panorama of small-scale battlefields with thousands of the military miniatures on display at the Wintertime New York Toy Soldier Show, the first show of the new year.

The show will feature 50 tables of toy soldiers from top dealers. The collector, investor, hobbiest and gamer will find antique to new production solids, hollowcasts, flats, tin litho, casts, hand-painted custom figures and sets. The latest offerings from leading manufacturers -domestic and foreign- will be at the show.

Soldiers from all periods will be marching in step, battling, or awaiting orders in historic battle scenes.

Collectors will find antique old Britains - loose and boxed sets from the pre- and post-war periods, and World War II. Baby boomers will find those great Marx plastic men that came in big boxes with lots of accessories.

Hobbyists will find modern sets by current makers, like the new Conte sets that combine favorite movies into big playsets.

If traditional toy soldiers are your thing, you can find marching bands, Scottish Highlanders, Guards and more. Custom-painted figures will be offered by makers.

Also find old packaged figures, like the ones you bought in the candy store, by Lido, Multiple, and Beton. There will also be lots of tanks, jeeps, and planes to support your infantry. GI Joe-sized 12-inch figures will be there as well, plus games, books, magazines and much more.

The Radisson is located just opposite Kennedy Airport off the Belt Parkway/North Conduit at 140th Street, at 135-30 140 St. Admission is $7, children under 12 are free.
