The McClancy hockey team received a much-needed boost Friday night when Chris Knipe and Kevin Moran returned from a three-game suspension resulting from fighting majors in a game against Salesian.
Without the duo the Crusaders struggled, losing four straight. But with them back in the lineup, McClancy scored three third period goals to defeat Bishop Ford 5-2 at Abe Stark Arena on Coney Island. Knipe and Moan each scored a goal in the victory.
They knew they dropped three straight without them and now that they are back, they came out flying, said McClancy coach Mike Brenneis. I knew with them back in lineup we had a good chance to win and they came out to play.
Jason Andjelovic put McClancy (5-10 CHSHL B) on the board in the second period on an assist from Joe Barker to tie the game at 1. Knipe scored an unassisted goal in the second period and the teams went into the third tied at 2.
Andjelovic netted his second of the game on an assist from John Mascetti to put the Crusaders ahead for good. Moran gave McClancy a two-goal lead and Mascetti capped the scoring with an empty net goal late in the third period.
I was pleased with the effort, Brenneis said. When they put their mind to it and want to play hockey, we can win. When the stuff was on the line, we came to play and thats what Im proud of.
Junior goaltender Manny Lorras protected the lead, making 19 saves, including a glove save on a breakaway with McClancy leading 3-2.
McClancy returns to the ice to take on St. Raymonds Thursday at the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon. Face-off is at 5 p.m.
Monsignor Farrell 8, Christ the King 0. The Royals managed just nine shots on net in the loss Saturday at Abe Stark Arena. Christ the King takes on Fordham Prep Thursday at Murray Rink in Yonkers at 7 p.m.

Prep (14-1-1 CHSHL B) also got goals from Adam Discepolo, Pat Chatterton, Steve Cameron, Ken DAndrea and Mike Ferri, the schools senior class president who netted his first goal of the year in the final minute of his last regular season game.
