CiGi McCollin Sr. Guard Christ the King
The super-strong guard from Astoria averaged 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and three steals for Christ the King, but sat out the Royals last two games because of a badly sprained ankle. McCollin, who has a great ability to drive to the basket, will take her game to Hofstra next year.
Donna Lohrey Sr. Guard The Mary Louis Academy
There certainly is no shortage of hard-working guards in the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan and Lohrey is right there with Gorynski and McCollin. In fact, the Molloy-bound guard, who averaged 21.2 points and eight assists per game, probably meant more to her team, as she led the Hilltoppers to their first CHSAA and Federation state titles.
Erin White Sr. Guard St. Francis Prep
Gorynski may have garnered more recognition for helping lead St. Francis Prep to its third straight CHSAA Class B championship, but behind the scenes was White, who missed nine games during the season because of an illness, but still hit some key shots down the stretch for the Terriers. The Queens College-bound guard averaged 10.5 points, 2.8 assists and 2.6 steals.
Shay Doron Jr. Guard Christ the King
The 5-foot-9 junior guard, who moved to Great Neck from Ramat Hasharon, Israel last year, was the complete package for Bob Mackeys Royals. She averaged 17.2 points, 6.7 steals, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists and could score from inside and out. Doron will be one of the top players in the CHSAA next year.
Rosalyn Gold-Onwude Fr. Forward Archbishop Molloy
Gold-Onwude is a major reason Molloy had a successful inaugural varsity campaign, as the Stanners went 13-12. The 5-foot-9 freshman forward averaged 11.5 points, 7.2 rebounds. 3.7 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Onwude, who also has a 95 average in the classroom, had a triple-double against Bishop Ford and six double-doubles.
Elizabeth Yuneman Sr. Guard St. Francis Prep
During the stretch midway through the season when White was out and teams focused their attention on stopping Gorynski, Yuneman stepped up and had four-straight 20-point games. Yuneman, who is probably the Terriers top defender, averaged 12.1 points, four steals and buried 37.1 percent from three-point range, taking 124 of a team-record 452 threes.
Rachele Burriesci Jr. Forward The Mary Louis Academy
Sure shes happy about the 9.2 points and 11 rebounds per game, but the stat that truly speaks volumes about Burriesci is the three charges per game she drew. Mary Louis coach Joe Lewinger calls the 5-foot-7 forward, who is 115-pounds of pure muscle, a source of inspiration.
Candice Lindsay Jr. Forward Christ the King
Lindsay, a 6-foot junior forward, had a great year for Christ the King, especially on the offensive end. She was a constant threat inside and was named MVP of the Battle of the Boardwalk in Asbury Park, N.J. Averaging 9.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, Lindsay also showed signs of being able to hit the outside jumper.
Jessica McEntee Fr. Forward Archbishop Molloy
McEntee, a 5-foot-11 freshman, is another reason Molloy will be a team to be wary of in the near future. She averaged 8.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game and had a team-high 48 blocks. McEntee, who is also on the Molloy cross-country track team, had three double-doubles during the year, including a 20-rebound performance against Bishop Kearney.
Corrine Turner Jr. Forward Christ the King
The 6-foot-2 Turner is one of several juniors returning, making Christ the King again the team to beat in the CHSAA. She displayed flashes of brilliance and greatly improved her rebounding skills as she averaged 8.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
