St. Andrew’s sixth-graders gut out a 10-7 win over St. Mary’s

The Big Green of St. Andrew’s took on a ready St. Mary’s Winfield team on Sunday at Mauries Field.

St. Mary’s jumped to an early 3-0 lead and extended the lead to 5-1 through the top of the third inning. However, St. Andrew’s slowly fought their way back in the bottom of the third, cutting the Mary’s lead to 5-3

Big Green’s pitching shut down St. Mary’s from the fourth inning on, as John McEntee struck out 13 Mary’s hitter's over seven innings, while walking five and allowing six hits.

St. Andrew’s exploaded with six runs in the fourth inning, as they batted around. Big Green added another run in the fifth to surge to a 10-5 lead. St. Mary’s added two runs in the sixth inning, but could do no better. St. Andrew’s went on to win and take over second place in their division with one game remaining be fore the playoffs.

St. Andrew’s managed to work out a season-high 14 walks, while John McEntee went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Sean McEnerney (one RBI) Jimmy Cerco had two walks ( one RBI) while Billy Almon and Pirton Hiliti each had an RBI and Dave Capeal had three walks and one RBI.

Fielding was outstanding for Big Green, as Sean McEnerny played errorless ball at short, while Daniel Capeal, John McEntee, Michael Lopresti, Arton Hiliti and David Domiguez made big plays in the field.
