S. Ozone Pk. bite suspect hit with attempted murder

A South Ozone Park man arrested last week on charges of viciously biting his girlfriend on her face and ears during a brutal domestic dispute was indicted for attempted murder and assault, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced Monday.

Calling the attack on 21-year-old Jessica Mencia “intentional and incredibly savage,” Brown obtained a three-count indictment against Felix Rondon, 31, of 150-11 122nd St. in South Ozone Park.

Rondon, who has been held in Bellevue Hospital Center in Manhattan for psychiatric evaluation since he was arrested Feb. 18, faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted. He was scheduled to be arraigned sometime this week.

According to the indictment, Rondon, who owned a car service company, repeatedly bit Mencia’s face and body, tearing away parts of her flesh. He caused serious physical injuries to his girlfriend, including gross disfigurement of her face and possible loss of sight in her left eye, the DA said.

Police from the 106th Precinct, responding to 911 calls from neighbors shortly before 2 a.m. Feb. 18, rushed to Rondon’s 122nd Street home and had to knock down two doors before finding him lying on top of a semi-conscious Mencia in a bedroom.

“Fortunately, police who responded to a 911 call for help were able to save her life by pulling him off the victim and stopping the attack,” Brown said in announcing the indictment.

Mencia, who dated Rondon for eight years and is the mother of his 4-year old daughter, was taken to Jamaica Hospital where she underwent emergency plastic surgery and was listed in stable condition Monday evening, said hospital spokesman Ole Pederson.

The DA described Mencia’s injuries as serious and permanent.

Police said there had been no reports of previous domestic violence at the home, which is located just north of the Belt Parkway in the shadows of John F. Kennedy International Airport.
