School: Archbishop Molloy
After taking a backseat to Rosalyn Gold-Onwude, Keri-Ann Jetter and Annamarie Ciorciari for much of the season, Jessica McEntee picked the state Federation Class C championship game to have her best game of the year as the Stanners defeated South Seneca, 51-47.
The 6-foot forward from Flushing earned game MVP honors, scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds as Molloy dominated the boards, 36-28 23-6 on the offensive glass.
We wanted this game more than any others, said McEntee, whose layup put Molloy ahead 17-6 early on. Especially on the offensive boards we boxed out and got third and fourth chances. Its how we got the lead in the beginning.
Keri-Ann Jetter was having a game to forget until she buried a three from the right wing and then followed with a putback that gave the Stanners a 43-42 lead with 4:18 left in the fourth quarter ... Annamarie Ciorciari, who had also struggled with her perimeter shot, slashed through traffic for a scoop layup that gave Molloy a 49-47 lead with 34 seconds left in the fourth quarter ... In his final high school game, Cathedral Preps Bradd Wierzbicki scored a game-high 29 points and added 11 rebounds in the Crusaders 56-50 loss to Brooklyn Friends in the state Federation Class C semifinals. The Maspeth native, who is the leading scorer in the CHSAA, became the all-time leading scorer in Cathedral Prep history ... Christ the Kings Japhet McNeil scored a game-high 23 points and dished out 8 assists in the Royals heartbreaking 75-73 loss in the state Federation Class A championship game to Lincoln ... Carrem Gay, a sophomore on the Christ the King girls basketball team had 17 points and 9 rebounds in the Royals 65-63 loss to Bergtraum in the state Federation Class A championship game.
