MusicFest brings free music to LIC’s Court Square Park

The 4th Annual CyberCity @ LIC AllEars Music Fest kicks off on Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. in Court Square Park in Long Island City.

This popular series of free noontime concerts offers lively music ranging from contemporary jazz to fresh Latin beats. Concerts continue on the following Wednesdays: July 16, 23, 30 and Aug. 6.

AllEars MusicFest is sponsored by Citibank and Queens Council on the Arts in cooperation with Long Island City Business Development Corporation, Digital NYC: Wired to the WorldÆ, and Partnerships for Parks.

Local restaurant purveyors will be on hand to sell well-priced luncheon items.

July 9 — Indofunk

Indofunk blends straight-up American funk and dance beats with Indian classical modes to create a new take on funky music. Think Miles Davis meets Ravi Shankar.

July 16 — Latin Rhythm Devils

The Latin Rhythm Devils have blended Afro-Cuban music with its descendant, salsa, and mixed the ingredients with blues, jazz, rock and funk to create spirited, fresh Afro-Cuban music. The arrangements, conceived by Clemente Ruiz and honed collectively by the band, form an original, identifiable style.

July 23 — The Sheryl Bailey Three

The Sheryl Bailey Three captures the feeling of the legendary guitar/organ trios of the 60s, but with the trimmings of a modern jazz machine. Sheryl Bailey will be joined by drummer Ian Froman and organist Brian Charette for this concert.

July 30 — Alter Egos

The Alter Egos are an NYC-based hip-hop group that calls The Space in Long Island City home. They bring together thoughtful and poetic rhymes with dynamic music drawing from the hip-hop and jazz traditions.

Aug. 6 — African Blue Note

The invigorating sounds of African Blue Note derive from a variety of African rhythms including juju (Nigeria), soukous (Congo), bikutsi and makossa (Cameroon), and hi-life (Ghana).
