In the St. Kevin’s win, key contributions were also made by Brian Flynn, who tallied 14 points as St. Robert’s rallied from a 7-4 first-quarter deficit to lead 18-9 at halftime. The home team stretched the lead to 10 after three quarters as point guard Sean Escobedo scored 11 points.

Forward Pete Scianna netted 4 points and guard Vinny Iannece added a free-throw for the 15-point victory last Sunday. Julius Wells had 15 points and three three-pointers to lead St. Kevin’s with help from William Chu, who had 10 points.

On Jan. 19, St. Robert’s traveled to St. Gregory the Great and notched a 31-28 win. Garcia again scored in double figures (12) and Flynn poured in 7 points to go with Scianna’s 5 points to hold off a game St. Greg’s squad.

Jefferson Garcia came off the bench to score 4 points and Joey Miccio and Mike Gallagher came up with big defensive rebounds down the stretch for the win. St. Robert’s led 17-13 at the break but couldn’t pull away, as St. Gregory cut the lead to three with two seconds to play. A final three-point attempt bounced off the rim at the buzzer to preserve the win for St. Robert’s.

The St. Robert’s seventh-grade CYO team is coached by Jerry Iannece and Dominic Scianna.
