Parents at Rose E. Scala P.S. 71 can breathe a sigh of relief this week as Senator Jeffrey Klein and the NYPD announced an agreement, ensuring that a busy intersection near the 3040 Roberts Avenue school will have a permanent, full-day crossing guard stationed at all times.
Concerns were raised when the regular school crossing guard was hit by a car and sidelined for an extended period of time. On Thursday, December 8, the crossing guard posted on the corner of Jarvis Avenue and Middletown Road one block from the school was struck by a car and rushed to the hospital. In turn, the NYPD was unable to consistently man the post in the crossing guard
