TARRYTOWN A Jamaica man wanted on drug charges was under arrested after he was assaulted a state trooper Monday night, state police said.
They said Wilfredo Martinez, 33, was driving erratically in his 2002 Land Rover southbound on I-87 when a trooper spotted him. The officer, David Katz, performed a background check and learned Martinez had an active New York City warrant on felony drug charges, according to police.
When Katz returned to Martinez's SUV to arrest him, Martinez allegedly resisted and got into a scuffle with the trooper. Katz eventually subdued Matinez and took him into custody, police said.
Martinez was charged with assault, resisting arrest, driving with ability impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to police. The Journal News reported that the NYPD was expected to lodge its warrant at the Westchester jail where Martinez was being held.
