Twin teens arrested in Fresh Mdws. robbery: Cops

Police were not seeing double when they apprehended a set of 16-year-old twins among six teens who allegedly broke into a Fresh Meadows supermarket last week and helped themselves to cash and cigarettes, authorities said.

Daniel and Yirardo Segura, both 16 and of Fresh Meadows, were spotted inside the Waldbaum's supermarket at 196-35 Horace Harding Expwy. at about 2 a.m. Aug. 11, according to the complaint filed in Queens Criminal Court.

When police arrived at the scene, the store's front window was broken and both boys were allegedly inside wearing masks, but fled through the back door of the supermarket, the complaint said.

Video surveillance footage shows the twins and two others allegedly breaking the front window and entering the store, the complaint said.

Police found a screwdriver, a pair of binoculars, a wrench, a flashlight, one white glove and $1,923.92 in Daniel Segura's backpack, the complaint said. Authorities also found Yirardo Segura with a dozen packs of Newport cigarettes and change, the complaint said.

The Segura brothers were arraigned Aug. 11 on burglary and grand larceny charges, released on their own recognizance and were due back in court Sept. 22, the Queens district attorney's office said.

When police caught the rest of the suspected burglars — Matthew Ehrlich, 17, of Fresh Meadows; John Paulk, 16, of Flushing; Sean Peterson, 18, of Fresh Meadows; and Alex Wilkinson, 16, of Fresh Meadows — the four admitted that they had broken the store window along with the Segura twins and entered the supermarket, and Wilkinson admitted to meeting up with the others to plan the break-in, a separate criminal complaint said.

Ehrlich, Paulk, Peterson and Wilkinson were arraigned Aug. 12 on charges of burglary, grand larceny and possession of burglar's tools and were also due back in court Sept. 22, the Queens DA's office said.
