Alicja Pawelec came off the court in a huff and sat down on the Francis Lewis girlsÕ volleyball teamÕs bench with a thud.

The junior middle hitter was not pleased and for good reason: Lewis just lost to Pelham, 25-17, 25-14, in the PatriotsÕ host tournament Monday in Fresh Meadows and a win in the final would have more than likely earned Pawelec most valuable player honors.

But the loss wasnÕt without its lessons. Lewis swept Queens rival Mary Louis in a hard-fought battle about a half-hour earlier and the match against Pelham was a bit of a letdown.
