The incident occurred after 11:30 p.m. in a house near 147th Drive and Weller Lane, police said. Officers responded to reports of a person shot and when they arrived at the scene, they found a 42-year-old man dead from a shot to his head and a shot to his torso, according to police.Neighbors, who said the man had moved into the house about six months ago, were shocked and upset over the shooting."The neighborhood used to be so peaceful. Now we got people coming out in the middle of the night and waiting at people's houses so they could rob them," said a resident named Lloyd, who refused to give his last name.Police did not disclose the identity of the victim as they were waiting to inform his next of kin. The investigation was ongoing and no arrests were made.Neighbors said the two-family attached house where the man lived had been built less than a year ago. Numerous sports trophies were laid across the windowsill of the living room.Anyone with information is urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.Reach reporter Ivan Pereira by e-mail at ipereira@timesledger.com or by phone at 718-229-0300, Ext. 146.
