OZONE PARK — A teenage couple was arrested at a 106th Street apartment after police said one of them shot herself in the leg with a hand gun.

Police said the couple, a 16−year−old girl and a 17−year−old boy, were together at the boyfriend’s home when he passed his girlfriend a loaded hand gun. Police said the gun discharged, striking the girl once in the leg, as she attempted to pass it back to her boyfriend.

Police said the two teens were arrested after they took a taxi to Elmhurst Hospital, where the 16−year−old was treated for her injuries.

Each of the teens was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, authorities said.
