Julio Arce defeated Gilberto Sanchez by a score of 5-0 in the semifinal round of the Golden Gloves boxing tournament Friday night.
Arce, an instructor at the Tiger Shuclmann’s training center on Bell Boulevard in Bayside, was awarded the Empire City Casino Punch of the Night for a straight left hand that knocked Sanchez “to the ground and almost out of the ring,” according to Bryan Gotthoffer, Arce’s sensei.
Arce will fight David Green in the 141-pound novice class final match at Madison Square Garden either next Thursday or Friday.
