Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s budget refusal to support the millionaire tax surcharge on the grounds that such people would leave the state is as empty as the claim that by not fully taxing the rich, money would trickle down to the middle class and the poor.
The only thing that trickles down to the less fortunate is rain. If the super-rich wanted to leave the state, which I doubt, I say let them go. I would sooner pay more taxes if they did go than see them get away not paying their fair share of the tax burden (“Cuomo, Legislature leaders reach budget deal,” Flushing Times, March 31-April 6).
