By Kelsey Durham

ASTORIA – Police released new surveillance images in hopes of identifying a man suspected of trying to rape a woman in Astoria last month, the NYPD said.

Authorities said a 22-year-old woman was walking on 30th Avenue in Astoria around 3:25 a.m. Feb. 23 when a man allegedly came up behind her and pushed her to the ground. The suspect allegedly attempted to rape the woman while she was on the ground but eventually fled when the victim fought back, police said.

The woman reported minor cuts and scrapes as a result of the incident but refused medical attention, according to the NYPD.

The suspect is described by police as a Hispanic man in his early 30s, approximately 5-foot-7 and around 145 pounds.

Police asked those with information to contact NYPD’s Crimestoppers by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting its website or texting 274637 (CRIMES) and entering TIP577.
