Police were looking for a man who attempted to rape a 51-year-old woman in College Point early Wednesday morning.

At about 4:45 a.m. in the area of 121st Street and 23rd Avenue, the suspect followed the woman along 121st Street before he approached her from behind, told her he had a gun and said he was going to rape her, according to the police.

When the suspect dragged the victim into the backyard of a residential building, she fought him off and yelled for help, police said.

The suspect then fled southbound on 121st Street, officials said.

The suspect was described by police as a Hispanic man between the ages of 23 and 25 years old who is 5-foot-11, weighs 180 pounds and has a tattoo of a cross and Jesus on his right arm. He was last seen wearing a white tank top, dark-colored jeans and yellow work boots.

No arrests have been made and the investigation was ongoing, according to a police spokeswoman.
