America is replete with consumers using a myriad of self-prescribed, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, minerals, inappropriate prescription dosages, and other treatments — such as chiropractic, homeopathic, acupuncture, acupressure, and psychologic — not prescribed by a licensed physician with an M.D. degree.

First, only a physician is fully trained in the biomedical and clinical sciences, through a highly competitive and rigorous medical education, to competently diagnose and treat the human body and mind. Lay persons have no such competence, despite the ease of Internet browsing.

Second, the only medical treatments which are scientifically sound are those which have been empirically verified by double-blind, randomized experiments and meta-analyses, as the Food and Drug Administration requires of prescribed drugs and other treatments.

Consumers must stop-and-desist with respect to any chemical substances or treatments which are neither authorized by American biomedical and clinical science nor prescribed by a physician.

The Scottish epistemologist, David Hume (1711-1776), concluded the Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding (1748), by asking, “Does it contain any abstract reasoning concerning quantity or number? No. Does it contain any experimental reasoning concerning matter-of-fact and existence? No. Commit it then to the flames: for it can contain nothing but sophistry and illusion.”

Bye-bye quackery, as the M.D. is king.

ChristyRedd says:
Homeopathy is the second most used system of medicine in the world today with more than 550 million patients because it's safe, effective, often curative where conventional treatments fail, and inexpensive.

A little research on the author's part would have shown that there are one half million practicing homeopaths in the world and that most ARE M.D.'s although some are D.O.'s.

A little more research would have shown that there are thousands of high quality scientific studies showing homeopathy works in a variety of conditions. There is replicated research showing it works in 23 disease conditions including ADHD, asthma, blood coagulation, arsenic toxicity and female infertility. They have been published in the world's most respected, peer-reviewed journals such as Chest, Pediatrics, Rheumatology, the International Journal of Oncology and the Archives of Emergency Medicine.

Some of these studies can be seen at http://hpathy.com/scientific-research/research-in-homoeopathy

Anyone who would like to see case records of cures of chronic diseases using homeopathy alone, conditions like type 2 diabetes, cancer, gangrene and addiction to conventional drugs, can find them by goggling "homeopathy cured cases". They are documented by CT scans, x-rays, histopathological reports, blood work and more plus the comments of treating physicians and their patients.

After 20 years' of personal experience as a homeopathic patient I can only say that anyone who finds it has a friend for life.

Well, well. Traditional Chinese Medicine (which we can thank for acupuncture and acupressure), Chiropractic and Homeopathy are non-pharma branches of medicine in which conventional physicians are NOT trained. For the uninformed, the pharma cartel in North America BOUGHT mainstream medicine over 100 years ago. Never mind that Harvard Medical School students have repeatedly protested undue influence... Traditional Chinese Medicine is the foremost form of medicine used worldwide and Homeopathy is second. Pharma is the new kid on the block, and according to the World Health Organization gets a big failing grade in coming up with workable medicine.
Empirical Medicine (such as TCM, Homeopathy and Chiropractic) are based on years and years of positive clinical outcomes. Mainstream medicine is based on rationalist theory that changes its tune on a regular basis but has yet to cure anything.
People have a right to choose whatever form of health care meets their needs.
Fascist medical diatribes like the one presented here are so full of holes you could drive a bus through them.

R.Ross from Life says:
So, only qualified MD's as in practitioners of Allopathic medicine are to be trusted?

How can that be when their kill and injure rate annually is in the millions worldwide and it is the third biggest killer overall when compared to disease, most of it from prescribed medication?

Larry Malerba, DO from Born in Flushing, NY says:
As a physician with a medical degree who grew up in Flushing and who now practices homeopathy, I must inform Mr Manago that homeopathic medicines have been FDA regulated since 1938. The oldest medical organization for physicians in the U.S. is the American Institute for Homeopathy, which predates the founding of the infamous AMA by several years. Homeopathic medicines are far safer and much less expensive than conventional pharmaceuticals, which are notorious for their dangerous and sometimes deadly side effects. When prescribed with skill, homeopathic remedies are extremely effective for acute, chronic, and psychologic health problems. The way of the future is toward a system of medicine that will make use of the best that all forms of healing (allopathy, homeopathy, acupuncture, TCM, herbal medicine, nutrition, energy healing, naturopathy, and more) have to offer. Patient choice is paramount, and all attempts to restrict a person's freedom to utilize the therapy of his or her choice is anti-democratic and should be rejected vigorously. There should be zero tolerance for medical intolerance.
