Missing Fresh Meadows teen found once again

A Fresh Meadows 15-year-old has returned home after being reported missing for the second time this year, police said. Skye Azhar was last seen May 16 and returned home two days later, according to NYPD.

Azhar has a history of slipping away and wandering the city on public transit, according to his mother, Kitty Azhar.

His late January disappearance mystified his mother after he took deliberate measures to cover his tracks. He remained missing for over two weeks before returning to his family.

On Jan. 31, Kitty Azhar heard the early morning sounds of someone shuffling around in the kitchen of their home on Utopia Parkway. As the day turned into night, Skye was still missing and Azhar began looking for clues in his bedroom. At the bottom of the dresser drawer was Skye’s cellphone, wiped of all data. Azhar reported her son missing to the 107th Precinct.

Kitty Azhar said at the time that her son often went to Manhattan on the trains, and sometimes met up with his father, who works in the city. She could not account for her son’s activities for the majority of the time he would meander through the public transit system, but she believed he was simply bored at home.

Before disappearing the first time, Skye had complained over social media about his mother going through his phone. Azhar had been using a tracking app to keep up with him through the phone he carried.

“I think that would be part of the reason why he knew we would be using that tracker on the phone. When he did have [the phone], we would see where he would be during the day,” Kitty Azhar said in January.
