Zevel Transfer, LLC Proposed Change in Hours of Operation and Addition of Crusher Fact Sheet Zevel Transfer LLC (“Zevel”) seeks modification of its NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) permit to change the hours of operation and add a crusher at its 620 Truxton Street transfer station. Application ID # 2-6007-00070/00009. As part of the application process, Zevel is required to notify the public about the proposed change and give the public the opportunity to comment. The proposed change would allow Zevel to operate 12:01am Sunday through 11:59pm Friday as follows: inbound trucks: 6:00 am - 7:00pm, Sunday through Friday; outbound trucks: 12:01am Sunday through 11:59pm Friday, closed Saturday. Zevel is currently authorized to operate from 5:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday; 5:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday; closed Sunday. A crusher would also be installed at the facility. The crusher and sorting line equipment operation would be limited to the hours between 7:00 am and 10:00 pm Sunday through Friday. Why does Zevel need this modification? Although the permit currently allows Saturday operation, Zevel currently remains closed on Saturday for religious observance. Zevel is seeking a permit modification to allow expanded hours that will include Sunday and nighttime operation, but closed on Saturday. The proposed crusher would enable Zevel to keep more material from going to landfills by increasing the amount of material that is beneficially recycled. How might the modification affect the surrounding community? Zevel is aware that truck traffic and noise from the crusher may be of concern. However, the proposed change in operating hours will not increase the number of trucks that Zevel handles each week. The proposal only changes the hours during which the facility receives trucks. Additionally, Zevel will take measures to insure that the crusher complies with City and State noise limits. If you are concerned about potential impacts, you may wish to get more information.
