Retired prison guard shoots estranged wife in Woodside: DA

A 54-year-old retired city correction officer has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of his wife in their Woodside home last Sunday, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. According to the charges, Victor Guzman was involved in a verbal and physical altercation with his wife, Maria Guzman, 52, inside their apartment on 59th Street near Laurel Hill Boulevard when he pulled out a .38 caliber revolver and fired one round while their 7-year-old grandson was in the home.
