In the midst of his best collegiate season, St. John’s men’s hoops star Shamorie Ponds earned a spot on the All-Big East first team. Comment
St. Francis Prep’s first-year coach Jim Lynch, hoped that his young guards would be able to stand up to the constant defensive pressure of Scanlan. But the Crusaders’ constant pressure eventually took its toll on the Terriers, resulting in a 74-60 Scanlan victory in the CHSAA Intersectional first-round playoff game. Comment

Legendary St. Francis Prep Basketball coach Tim Leary, 73, died last week after battling gallbladder cancer. Comment
Cardozo basketball coach Ron Naclerio knew that before he could begin to think about winning his fourth NYC PSAL Basketball Championship, his team would have to accomplish their goal of capturing the 2018 PSAL Queens Borough Championship. Comment
The St. John’s men’s basketball team continued its surprising turnaround, defeating Marquette, 86-78 Saturday after shocking No. 1 Villanova, 79-75 just three days earlier. The impressive victories come after the Red Storm defeated then-No. 4 Duke to snap an 11-game losing streak and bumped up their record to 13-13 (2-11 in conference) on the season. Comment

The St. John’s women’s basketball team continues to roll, earning its fifth straight victory by dispatching Villanova, 70-64, Sunday afternoon at Carnesecca Arena. Comment

St. John’s Prep earns hard-fought tournament win

Participation in the Hoopers NY Martin Luther King Challenge provided head coach Mike LoCascio an opportunity to get his St. John’s Prep girls’ hoops team some much-needed game experience, as the Red Storm overcame a long fourth-quarter scoreless drought to defeat Woodlands Senior High School of White Plains, 49-38, at Harry S. Truman High School in the Bronx. Comment

Molloy boys’ hoops falls to All Hallows

Last week’s intersectional basketball game between Archbishop Molloy and All Hallows was a rematch of last year’s playoff classic, won by Molloy. The Gaels, with clutch free throw shots and tough defensive play, held off Molloy to earn a 69-62 victory, at the Gauchos Gym in the Bronx. Comment
