ASTORIA — Police have asked the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect wanted for committing sexual assault in Astoria.
At about 12:30 a.m. last Thursday, a 19-year-old woman was walking near 2nd Street and 26th Avenue when she was approached from behind by a 5-foot-7-inch Hispanic man between 18 and 20 years of age, police said.
The suspect, who weighed between 150 and 160 pounds and was wearing a blue windbreaker, dark pants and dark sneakers, allegedly pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her, according to investigators.
The victim fought back against the attacker, who took her pocketbook and fled the scene, police said. The victim was taken to an area hospital, treated and released.
Anyone with information about this sexual assault is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
