Tails will be wagging in Glen Oaks Village this weekend, when members of the garden co-op apartment complex celebrate their new dog run park.

With construction on the new dog park finally complete, Glen Oaks Village President Bob Friedrich said he saw nothing but positive potential in the new area that people of the village could really dig their paws into.

“Glen Oaks Village is the largest garden co-op in New York,” Friedrich said. “And to the best of my knowledge, this is the biggest and most beautiful dog park in Queens.”

Referred to by Glen Oaks Village as the Enchanted Forest Dog Park, Friedrich said the group would hold a grand opening event on Saturday at noon to kick off a new beginning for dogs throughout the area.

“When you see it, you will think you are in an enchanted forest,” the group said of the new park.

Photographs of the new park distributed by Glen Oaks Village showed fresh green scenery with plenty of room for canine pals to frolic while dog lovers from throughout northeast Queens could sit and share stories of their best friends.

“It’s not just a dog run, but also a beautiful park and wonderfully serene place where you can come and relax, even if you don’t have a dog,” the group said in a statement. “The park has plenty of seating outside of the gated dog run area and will be lit in the evenings.”

The park, split into two for both large and small dogs, is covered in special K9 artificial turf and includes natural vegetation on its gently sloping hills. Special dog waste receptacles equipped with plastic bag dispensers will also be found inside the gated areas, Friedrich said.

Those interested in gaining access to the park must pay an annual $25 fee per dog for Glen Oaks Village residents, or $50 per dog for non-residents. Though the fee for 2012 has been waived, the 2013 fee will be due May 31, 2013.

Glen Oaks Village is a self-managed cooperative apartment development in Floral Park, home to nearly 3,000 garden-style apartments in 134 buildings.
