A 77-year-old man who lost control of his motor vehicle and crashed on the Northern Boulevard bridge near 114th Street was in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital Center, according to the NYPD.

The man was driving a Mercedes-Benz SUV just after 11 a.m. when he lost control and struck a divider on the Northern Boulevard extension bridge between Citi Field and 114th Street, cops said.

The driver was pinned in the vehicle and needed emergency personnel, the NYPD and FDNY to use the Jaws of Life to get him out of the vehicle, cops said.

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad was ordered to the scene to investigate due to the severity of the driver’s injuries, police said.

77 and still driving?! SMH
Elderly drivers should be required to take some kind of annual test to certify that they are still fit to drive. They're a danger to others and themselves if their reflexes and/or abilities are diminished.
