A College Point resident said he is upset that recruits from the Police Academy in the neighborhood are parking in residential areas.

Richard Erdey, 43, who lives on 128th Street between 23rd and 25th avenues, said recruits from the academy on College Point Boulevard and 28th Avenue routinely park on the nearby residential streets, specifically 128th, 129th and 130th streets between 23rd and 25th avenues.

The NYPD could not be reached for comment.

On Monday, Erdey said he saw that they had parked on 25th Avenue from Ulmer Street all the way to the academy.

He spoke with the sergeant of operations at the Police Academy who told him that the city had plans for a certain amount of parking but that it could not afford to finish it.

“He said, ‘What can I tell you? It’s a public street,’ and I said, ‘Let’s go back to the agreement that the community board had with the Police Academy or NYPD, the city,’” Erdey said. “It was supposed to be a minimum delay or problem and he said, ‘Well, it’s a public street unless they’re blocking a driveway.’”

He added that although some of the parked cars belong to a construction company in the area, most of the cars belong to the recruits.

Gene Kelty, chairman of Community Board 7, said the NYPD had promised that parking would not be an issue, saying the board expects the department to tell the recruits to either park onsite or take mass transit.

He said the board has forwarded the parking complaint to its contacts in the Police Department and noted that it is hard to address the parking issue because no one is entitled to a parking spot in a residential area.

“We wanted all parking on site because we didn’t want this to happen,” Kelty said.

He said the Police Academy project got scaled down into phases during former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration, noting that the first phase was building part of the parking lot and the classroom area.

“It’s very nice,” he said. “We were happy that they got a state-of-the-art facility, it’s just that they were not supposed to impact the area.”

In a letter dated Nov. 20 to Police Commissioner Bill Bratton on behalf of Erdey, state Sen. Tony Avella (D-Bayside) asked Bratton to review the parking issue and get back to him with his findings.

Concerned Citizen from College Point says:
The Recuits also routinely park on 123rd St, 124th St, 125th St and 126th St between 25th Rd and 25th Ave. As well as on 26 Ave bet 123 St & Ulmer St. The City should rent the extra parking lot for the Multiplex theater on Ulmer Street between 26th and 28th Ave, it's closed and never used.

Some of those no-life jokers will belly-ache about anything. Erdey should keep that parking thing in mind the next time he needs and calls for a police officer.

So candice its ok to be inconevienced and lied to and taken advantage of because they are going to be cops?
Understood. Makes perfect sense. If one is an idiot.

Erdey from College Point says:
Clearly Candice is not aware of the original agreement the CB7 had with the City that the New NYPD Academy would have enough spots and would not impact anyone around. I do enjoy the fact you are from Whitestone where in various places the parking is not as tight and if a commercial vehicle was parked overnight the car would get a ticket with in hours, that does not happen to easy in the 109th.

Candice, That is an idiotic comment to make, I think you are the one that has no life and should be aware of what goes on in the Community. The Community Board spent many years on that project for the well being of the surrounding communities, including Whitestone. The NYPD guaranteed that all parking will be on the premises & said the Cadets will carpool, take public transportation and even mentioned the possibility of a shuttle bus from Main St Flushing that will take them to the Academy. They even made a proposal to re-route the Q65 bus to get closer to the main entrance. They even mentioned that a Conditions Officer would patrol around the surrounding streets to make sure that none of the Cadets are parking on them. They promised there will be no impact on the surrounding residential streets which is not the case at all.
So Candice C I, before you insult people, you should get involved with your community and know what's going on before you say something.

Jeannette from Elmhurst says:
Some of us are concerned about our neighborhoods and maintaining a certain amount of tranquility, the same amount that existed prior to the police academy. Others have a need to constantly call the police because of their chosen lifestyle. There are many support groups that can help Candice, however she should not judge someone for protecting their neighborhood or holding the city responsible for their agreements.

Erdey has every right to complain if the community was lied to.why not rent out the movie theater space that is not inuse and ease every homeowner out there that is unhappy with the limited parking space they have now.

I'm not drunk enough to entertain Candice's ignorant comments. If the acedemy was made with certain regulations/rules by a community board they need to be followed. It should not dramatically effect any part of a community. ***drops mic***

Cameron if you read the article I called the Sgt. of operations at the Academy, he basically told me a lot of parking was scheduled to be built and yet now the city can't afford to do it, he basically told me a lot of parking was scheduled to be built and yet now the city can't afford it. Meanwhile if you read the comments there is a vacant lot right across the street from them that no one ever uses and it says cinema parking .

Erdey, you live in the area , worry about your parking space or park in your driveway. GO BY YOUR DAY and stop stressing.

Erdey didn't waste his time here, it was the reporter from the Times Ledger who wrote the article - here !

It's kind of funny the people from Whitestone are the ones saying something negative about someone caring about their neighborhood. It seems they do a lot of complaining and fighting with each other on Facebook, now it's spreading here.

Cameron so I should just worry about me? Interesting, to say the least let's see on College Pt. Blvd and 25 Ave I just got DOT to improve the traffic light so no child get hit going from PS 29 to the Co-op by the water. I believe that if we all strive to do a positive thing once in a while for the general public then you helping to improve mankind in general. Here the lesson is an agreement that CB7 made the City promise, right now NYC failed on that promise and took all the parking at the fields, so what about disabled children who want to play there? I believe I have made positive impacts and the proof is here.

Sir Erdey
You need to worry about your familys concerns and not about parking . I am on camerons side on this one .

Erdey from College Point says:
Ronny on a personal level my son was Dx. with autism and is high fuctoning at 6 years old so when he runs out to the side walk he runs to the family's cars of any of our cars are parked a few houses down he may choose to run to that car. I gave him his boundaries and he understands so he runs to the sides of our cars I don't need him to Adventure out of his boundaries. So it does concern my family.

Ronny, Cameron and Candice maybe instead of complaining about people complaining maybe you ought to learn or teach something worth wild. From me to you. Sorry I know this is off topic.
