State Assemblyman Edward Braunstein (D-Bayside) will be sponsoring his fourth annual summer blood drive at Bay Terrace Shopping Center Aug. 11.

The New York Blood Center, which announced an emergency shortage in June, will be looking for charitable veins on this day to combat the issue. Donors will receive electronic vouchers for two tickets to see the New York Mets at Citi Field, courtesy of Braunstein.

“Each blood donation helps to save up to three lives,” Braunstein said. “A blood shortage emergency has been declared in New York City and our hospitals are in need of your assistance, so I hope you will take the time to share this life-saving gift.”

The first 100 donors will receive a certificate for a free bowl of soup from Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen. Panera Bread and Stop & Shop will provide bread and water during the drive.

“By spreading the word or even hosting your own blood drive, inviting friends, family and community organizations, you may save lives in your community,” said Andrea Cefarelli, executive director of the blood center. “We are in dire need of O negative blood with a reserve that is currently below a two-day supply, and that is just too low.”

For eligibility to give blood, donors must show a donor card or a photo ID with signature, be a minimum weight of 110pounds and be between the ages of 16 and 75 with no new tattoos within the past year.

Donors are reminded to eat well and drink plenty of water beforehand.

The drive will take place between 2:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and will be located 212th Street and 26th Avenue.

For more information, call Braunstein’s office at 718--357-3588.
