Port Authority announces record numbers for first half of 2017

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced that the airports it operates set records with 63.5 million passengers the first half of 2017. Passenger levels jumped in the first half year by 2.4 percent.

“Keeping the longstanding position as the leading airport in international passenger traffic with continued strong growth in international travel, John F. Kennedy International Airport set a first half-year record with more than 28.5 million total passengers, up 1.4 percent compared to the first six month of 2016, the Port Authority said.

Meanwhile, LaGuardia airport post had the second highest traffic numbers in its history for the first half of 2917 with slightly more than 14 million passengers from January to June. Travel to Canada and the Caribbean was up significantly.

Newark Liberty International Airport welcomed a record 20.9 million passengers between January and June, up 7.2 percent from the first half last year.

Stewart International Airport had a strong first half year due to Allegiant Air’s increase in weekly flights. The advent of Norwegian Air also brought a return of international scheduled passenger traffic back to Stewart.
