It was mission accomplished for state Assemblyman Francisco Moya (D-Jackson Heights) in a jam-packed party space above a Corona pizzeria Tuesday night. Moya vowed to block Hiram Monserrate’s attempt to reclaim his former Council seat that became open when City Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras Copeland (D-East Elmhurst) decided against running for re-election for a third term.

The 21st Council District covers Corona, East Elmhurst, LeFrak City and parts of Jackson Heights.

Moya captured 55.6 percent of the vote while Monserrate had 44.4 percent based on final results reported by NY1. Moya portrayed himself as a man of ethics and honesty against Monserrate, who was expelled from the state Senate in 2010 for assaulting his girlfriend and later served two years in prison for theft of public funds while a city councilman. It was a track record which generated widespread support for Moya from many corners of the Democratic Party.

“We won with a mandate,” Moya said. “I think today was a day when the people of the 21st District really looked at the issues we talked about, the fact that we need to focus on affordable housing and making sure we deliver for our kids and seniors. That’s what we focused on. It wasn’t a negative campaign run by us — it was just based on issues.”

Moya and Monserrate waged a contentious battle for much of the summer.

“The moment I heard who the opponent was, I knew there was no way I could allow that person to come back to public office,” Moya said during an interview with TimesLedger Newspapers. “This man has proven time and time again that his violent, criminal, corrupt past belongs nowhere near public service, especially not the very same seat where he stole $100,000 and never apologized for the theft.”

Moya garnered a mother lode of endorsements from Gov. Cuomo, Mayor Bill de Blasio, Ferreras-Copeland and the seven candidates for Council speaker. Each carried a stinging repudiation of Monserrate. Even civil rights leader John Lewis, the Georgia congressman, joined lawmakers backing Moya.

Monserrate accused Moya of living outside the district in a Long Island City penthouse, committing voter and tax fraud without providing evidence. Moya refuted those charges, saying he owned the property and rented it out to a tenant.

“This is my borough and someone has to be a voice piece for the community,” Monserrate said during his interview with TimesLedger Newspapers. “Moya is not a voice piece, he’s a tool of corporate interests. Supporting him will just get more of the same, nothing changes and they’ll build another stadium. There won’t be any affordable housing and people will be displaced.”

As Moya was celebrating his hard-won victory in a crowded party space above a Corona pizzeria, Monserrate left his East Elmhurst headquarters refusing to speak with the media and leaving behind dozens of campaign workers who were trying to get paid. Neither Monserrate nor his campaign spokesman could be reached for comment.

At Moya’s party, U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-Jackson Heights), the chairman of the Queens County Democratic organization, called it “a great night for public integrity.”

Moya agreed.

“I’m happy and I’m honored the people of this community supported me,” Moya said. “We’re going to run this district with honor and integrity. I did it for seven years in the Assembly and I’m going to bring that leadership to the City Council.”

Barney from Corona says:
A very good source says Moneyrrat went home abruptly last night and threw a huge temper tantrum, drank lots of chardonnay, took Xanax and did some yoga before collapsing on the bed. He was heard muttering in his sleep "What Happened" over and over again. Snot was oozing from a single nostril. Maybe, as he always envisioned his illustrious career and personal success story, he will write book so we can continue to be amazed by him and understand his brilliant mind. We cant wait !!!

Moneyrrat was CRUSHED and DEVASTATED by the titanic blow in his 4th straight political defeat. He was an emotional wreck last night as it settled in, there is nowhere to go from here. He has not won an election in over 10 years... yet he has not gotten the message. Nor have the dopes that keep giving him bribes/donations. Bad investment guys... He will try to run again next year for NYS Senate against Peralta, but even the broken down beaten losers and flunkies that cling on him will finally accept the sledgehammer to the head that Moneyrrat CAN NOT WIN.

You will not see the "portly ex con" as the NYDN kindly described his slovenly, gluttonous, appearance floating around the neighborhood doing any good deeds. He will be too busy scheming his next con job and angling for what is most important to him, and that is free food. So long slob... for a little while at least.

Smoke from E Elmhurst says:
At work last night we saw the crowd hanging around making noise and blocking the street by Monserrates office. The smell of weed was powerful and the sidewalk was littered with liquor bottles and pint size beer cans. It looked like a gang summit or the exercise yard at Rikers. They seemed angry and wanted the money that they were beaten out of working for Monserrate for free. He does not pay his debts for sure.
Monserrate sped off in a car and some of the drunk volunteers threw plastic cups full of liquor and beer at the car as he fled. He gave them the finger and cursed back at them. I wish the reporters saw that... lol.

sum ting wong from flushing the toiet says:
Monserrate campaign manager Mike Nieves was heard telling the distraught and unraveling candidate as he ran away from the office after the poll results came in; "Remember one thing Hiram, if you beat her up and she needs stitches or a cast, take her to New Jersey this time dammit. We cant take any chances !! and we dont have bail money in the account, we cant even pay the dummies standing outside..."

He was worried because of what Talea Wuff said....

Monserrate campaign worker Talea Wufka said her boss left “to take care of his wife.”

“Wife first – Hiram’s a family man,” she said.

Monserrate, who served in the senate from 2009 to 2010, got slapped with misdemeanor assault conviction in 2009 after a violent altercation with then-girlfriend Karla Giraldo. He slashed Giraldo’s face with a shard of broken glass, leaving her with 20 stitches and a black eye, and was captured on tape dragging her bleeding through his apartment lobby by her hair.

If you are the wife you might be running scared when the maniac is coming home in that condition. Ruh roh...

Can Man from queens says:
That jerk Hiram always parks his car with the little pba book on the dash illegally on the sidewalk and near the Firehouse. We had to yell at him many times for blocking the Fire Engine exit because he puts us in danger if there is a fire call nearby. I hope the cops get him ridin dirty with the phony stickers taped on the windshield of his lexus that came off some other cars. What a fool. Just register and inspect your car like the rest of us do, your not above the law.

Karla from Jackson Hites says:
Hirams best qualification was that he had a good left hook when fighting against a woman. He should have bragged more about that and challenged Floyd Merriweather next.

But he kept bragging about the only thing he ever could claim he did, get meters suspended on Sunday afternoons. Thats sad that in 10 years thats all he can claim. Very sad. Good thing he got beat badly hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Larry L from College Point says:
Im glad this guy lost. Good riddance. Now lets get in with fixing Willets Point and the big issues we are facing. We must work together to make it better and there is now way we could have done it with monserrate the crook.
Sept. 13, 2017, 10:41 pm
Joe Tacs from Ny says:
Hiram had big dreams of collecting envelopes stuffed with bribes as he envisioned himself brokering deals over Willets Point. He was desperate to get in on the action he felt he was entitled to, not to let someone else do an honest deal. This was about selling access and favoritism to real estate developers and investors amd crooked lawyers that Monserrate knows.

Willets Point was the "Golden Egg" Monserrate waited his whole life for. He weathered a tough parole and managed to behave long enough to run again. It was a struggle for him for sure as he forced himself to resist the temptation of the young fresh meat and the opportunity to do some high risk-low return street thuggery. But ne needed to stay clean to the public for a few more months so that he could hit the lotto on Willets.

He thought he would get rich. He saw life finally being fair to him and getting what he deserved, what he was entitled to, it was going to equal out the prison term and disgrace he made of his entire family through shame and embarrassment. He could be someone.. hes smart... he could handle business... he thought. Just like Fredo.

Yes, hopefully he ends up j u s t like Fredo !!!

the new agenda from NYC says:
Lets please remember something that we at TNA have been telling the public for years, Hiram Monserrate is mentally ill and very sick. Read our expose from 2009 with all of the supporting documents. Monserrate was FORCED from the NYPD because of mental illness after just 11 years of employment.

He was declared unfit for duty and had all of his weapons removed and revoked due to unstable behavior and potential for violence and harm. The NYPD got it right, why did the rest of the citizens get it so wrong or just ignore it?

He went on to run a man over in a drunken vehicular assault on 09/10/2001 and fled the scene. He was allowed to get way with that in court because of the tragedy that occurred the following morning in our nation and at the WTC. Several years later he beat and stabbed Karla Giraldo and silenced her through intimidation. He took bribes from Larry Carr, a carnival operator that paid him more then $ 10,000 in cash bribes to get special treatment. Mr. Carr pled guilty to bribing Monserrate in federal court. He then went on to steal $130,000.00 of taxpayers money in the case that finally caught up with him. It sent him to federal prison for several years.

So when Monserrate claims he deserves a second chance and claims he has atoned for his mistakes, we say NO! He has been given his second chance already, after he stabbed Karla Giraldo, but it seems he needed at least four or five more. And he continued his violent and criminal ways. He is dangerous and unstable. He is a career criminal that must be pursued, kept out of public office, away from his victims, and ultimately returned to jail when the evidence to do so presents itself once again.

Remember that he will make another attempt to gain public office even though he has been repeatedly rejected every single time over the last decade. He is pernicious and ill. Make every effort to continue to educate our fellow citizens as we prepare for his next scheme and we mount our own counter offensive!!

In the event that anyone here is intrigued by trading I as of late discovered an extraordinary site and they are running an uncommon at this time. Simply Google the site Emini S&P Trading Secret, this is a brilliant spot to go to figure out how to trade. I'm happy I discovered them on the grounds that they are pleasant individuals and exceptionally supportive and educated about trading. Furthermore their help is the best I've seen I email them and they email me in five minutes, it’s truly an incredible spot they ought to all be similar to that.
