You may win the Kentucky Derby in Kentucky. But to win the Triple Crown, it has to be done in Queens. Justify crosses the wire at the Belmont Stakes to become 13th horse to claim the sport’s holy grail.
At the high-priced box seats just off the rail on Belmont Day, these young ladies celebrate as their horse, Justify, comes in.
Entering the the winner’s cirlcle, jockey Mike Smith motions for a groom to bring the waterbucket and a sponge to cool off his champion horse after the race.
Justify wears a custom-made turnout sheet that identities him as the newest Triple Crown winner a day after the race.
An assistant trainer carefully leads the big horse out of his stall in Barn 1 on the backstretch at Belmont the morning after he ran into the record books.
Justify gets up close and personal with the camera from “Good Morning America” during an interview with trainer Bob Baffert the day after the big race.

The crowds at Belmont Park, the biggest race track in the country, was capped at 90,000 for this year’s Belmont Stakes. Fans were hoping to see one of the sport’s rarest moments — a Triple Crown performance.

No one left the big old track disappointed — even those who bet against Justify — because the front-running three-year-old horse did exactly as he was expected and accomplished the feat.

Here’s what it looked like.
