It was a storybook season last year for the John Adams baseball team. The Spartans had ice water in their veins, not allowing the April 27 firing of their head coach Pete White affect them. Instead, with assistant Glenn Beyer at the helm, Adams reeled off 21 straight wins, capped by a 7-3 extra inning win over Port Richmond in the PSAL championship game at Yankee Stadium.

But as satisfying as the 1999 city championship was, it is yesterday
