Minor Division

Haller & Haller 12, Cutrone’s Lawmen 5. Haller and Haller’s season opener against Cutrone’s Lawmen was played with the threat of rain, so the boys decided to get to work in the first inning. A lead-off home run by Sal Ciccone got the Haller’s offense started. Haller’s players were patient at the plate and quick on the bases. Mike Pitelli, Tom Monahan, Vinny Falcone, Timmy Farrell, Frankie Santamaria and Stephen Graf each helped with timely hits with runners in scoring position.

The boys were on their game in the field, too. Vinny pitched the first two innings, giving up only one run, before moving to first where he made two great plays to save runs from scoring. Frankie Santamaria and Tom Monahan combined to do a great job behind the plate to keep Cutrone’s Lawmen from running. Frankie nailed the runner at third in the second to save a run. Stephen Graf got the lead runner at third on a ground ball up the middle, for the second out in the fourth. Mike O’Conner and Sal Ciccone combined their pitching talent to finish the game for Vin, striking out four batters. Heads up playing by the team!

Haller & Haller 9, Kew Forest Plumbing & Heating 5. Haller and Haller’s continued their momentum in the second game with strong hitting and good defense. Outfielder Tom Monahan saved a big inning in the first catching a deep fly ball down the left field line. The offense came alive in the third where the team batted around and scored six runs with hits from Sal Ciccone, Vinny Falcone, Mike Ferrara and Connor McCarthy.

In the fourth, Kew Forest threatened to have a big inning, but a key double play from outfielder Dennis Murray to short stop Stephen Graf to catcher Frank Santamaria stopped their momentum. Two hitters later, Frank Santamaria got the final out of the inning by getting the runner at third in a rundown. Stephen Graf came in the fifth in relief of Vinny Falcone, who pitched a great game.

Devils 10, CMRRC 2. The Devils started their season on a strong winning note last night, behind a dominant pitching performance by windmill pitcher Sam Stallone. Sam had the opposing hitters off-balance all night, she pitched a complete game recording eight strike outs and allowing just one hit. Sam was backed up by the strong infield defense of the Devils, first Base – Jesse Graf, second Base – Sabrina Piazza, shortstop – Krystil Hofmann, third base – Melissa Endres. The heavy hitting in game for Devils was produced by their veteran power hitters, Lucia Cappuccio and Melissa Endres, who both supplied triples. Expect more great things from Devils in 2002.

Nulite 14, Hope 9. The Nulite Devils got of to a strong start for the 2002 season with a gutsy performance on a cold spring night. The Devils got a strong pitching performance from starter Amanda Berner, who battled both the cold conditions and through a aggressive hope lineup. Amanda also helped herself with the bat as well driving a screaming triple into the gap in left-center field. The Devils offense was provided by returning star Jessica Jimenez who went (3-for- 4) and power hitting thirdbase person Michele Esposito, who went (3-for- 3). The Devils used their team speed to wreak havoc all over the base paths, Andrea Morshcer had a dynamic steal of home.
