Greek Cultural Center highlights boro writer

This theater production is presented under the auspices of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Nations Ambassador Sotos Zackheos and the Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in New York, Martha Mavromatis.

The play contains the typical blend of laughter and gravity that characterizes Dario Fo’s writing, which won him a Nobel Prize for Literature in 1997. Fo, born in 1926 in Italy, is one of the leading figures in modern farce and political drama. Some of his acclaimed works are “Mistero Buffo,” “Accidental Death of an Anarchist” and “Can’t Pay, Won’t Pay.”

“The Open Couple” is an one-act comedy about a couple who faces the consequent emotional struggle of having a liberal relationship, based on the husband’s own idea of individual freedom. In spite of his rational justification to his sleeping with other women while still remaining married, the woman battles with the unsettling situation and confronts him with despair. Things take a different turn for her husband, when she suddenly announces her affair with another man.

Performances will be given Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, April 11-20 at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 12 at 8:30p.m. and Thursday, April 17 at 77 p.m. at the Triad Theater, located at 158 W. 72nd Street in Manhattan. (between Broadway & Columbus). Admission is $15.
