Man tried to kidnap teen, 13, in Flushing: Police

FLUSHING — A 13-year-old girl narrowly escaped an abduction attempt in Flushing last week, police said.

At around 8 p.m. Dec. 1, the girl was walking near the corner of Barclay Avenue and Union Street close to Bowne Playground when a four-door, black sedan with tinted windows approached, according to police, who added that the car was occupied by two males. One of the men, reported to be in his late 40s, attempted to pull the girl inside, they said.

The girl managed to struggle free and the car sped off, but police have issued a sketch of the suspected abductor.

“That’s the first time I’ve heard of anything like this,” said neighborhood resident Mario Hernandez.

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said the area is usually not very dangerous and that the abduction surprised her.
